The wooden pump is partly made of wood. Wood is an inexpensive and easy to use construction material. It has the disadvantage of being attractive to insects (termites) and if the wood remains wet it rots easily.

Only the top part of the wooden pump at the WOT site is made of wood. From the simple wooden hand pump on the WOT-field is the overhead section of wood. The actual pump and the water tube is made of steel and PVC. The piston in the pump is made of wood with leather used for the valves and seals.
