The Kijito

The Kijito Windmill

The Intermediate Technology Development Group from England started a windmill project in Kenya, in 1975. The idea was to develop a commercial, modern and reliable water pumping windmill. The Kijito was the final result of it. The former windmill group “CWD” from the Netherlands has carried out many measurements at the windmill.

Ferrocement Tank

This tank is used to store water from the Kijito windmill. The tank can store ten cubic meters of water. Ferro-cement tanks consist of steel wire and a layer of cement. Ferro-cement tanks are cheap, strong, and can be made in different sizes easily. These tanks are also easy to repair and durable. Such a tank is hygienic storage of drinking water if it is covered. The cost of a tank or basin is usually as high as a windmill.
